North Carolina has implemented significant changes to its voting laws, now requiring all voters to present a photo identification at the polls. Acceptable forms of ID include driver's licenses, state ID cards, and U.S. passports, among others, while special provisions exist for those without IDs through an exception form. Voting by mail also mandates the inclusion of a photocopy of the voter's ID.

Poll observers now have specified parameters for their activities, and North Carolina law strictly prohibits the photography of marked ballots to prevent fraudulent practices.

Political expression at polling sites is permitted as long as it doesn't constitute electioneering.
